La mítica Cylinda Line es el resultado de un cabezota. Paul Holmblad era hace 50 años el director de la marca de productos de diseño nórdicos Stelton. Y también era el hijastro de Jacobsen. Holmbold se propuso que el arquitecto danés colaborara con su firma, acabó convenciéndole y el resultado fue un juego de café y de bar en acero inoxidable, poco pesado, muy práctico y de formas sencillas, sin artificios. Así funcionaba Arne Jacobsen (suyas son la silla hormiga, la silla huevo, la lámpara AJ…).
Para celebrar los 50 años de Stelton, su nuevo propietario (Holmbold vendió la empresa en 2004), Michael Ring, buscaba reinterpretar los clásicos para modernizarlos sin pervertir su esencia original. Y ahí entra en escena Paul Smith. El diseñador ha coloreado las asas de los termos y jarras, pero también ha escrito sobre ellas. “Tómate en serio el placer”, dice, por ejemplo, una jarra.
